Debate For Change- An Interactive Dialogue on the Advocacy for Quality Education, Civic Responsibility, and a GMO-Free Africa.
In Kampala, Uganda, many young people lacked the platforms to sharpen their voices, develop critical thinking, and meaningfully participate in shaping society. Classrooms prepared them for exams, but not for civic leadership. Girls faced cultural barriers that limited their participation, while boys and girls rarely engaged in spaces that promoted collaboration.
Determined to close this gap, Ambassador Martha pioneered bold initiatives that gave young people the confidence to lead.
At the heart of this is “Debate for Change,” a unique debate system designed for advocacy, problem-solving, and sensitization.
Through this platform, young men and women began to engage in structured debates on pressing issues such as educational inequality, GMOs, gender-based violence, and children’s rights; to use debate as a tool for sensitization; and to propose solutions to challenges.
The results have been immediate and transformative:
-Over 1,607 students now speak with courage, shaping conversations that matter.
-Academic performance has risen, literary creativity has flourished, and a new generation of confident leaders is emerging.
-Girls have now gained stronger representation, while boys are active partners in promoting equality.
Kampala’s youth are no longer waiting to be heard.
Ambassador Martha’s impact proves that one leader can lead a movement for change. The work has only just begun: more schools can be reached; more voices can be heard.
