The 12th of April every year is recognized and celebrated globally as the International Day for Street Children; this year, Future Africa leaders Foundation Ambassador James Okina and Street Priests Inc. in collaboration with PACT, SAFE CHILD AFRICA & BORN EQUAL organized an awareness walk covering almost 16 Kilometers, over 1 hour 30 minutes, along the streets of Calabar, Nigeria, calling for equality & equity for street kids with the intention to bring this societal issue to the consciousness of the government & society.
Almost 100 street children also participated in the walk as they marched, displaying boldly their cards, which read many heartfelt inscriptions. People reacted very emotionally to this event and were surprised to find out that there were these many kids on the streets.
At the end of the walk, the kids were celebrated and had fun dancing; it was indeed a very colorful and impactful event.
