Nelson Mandela Day celebration is a day set aside to celebrate the exemplary Leadership of the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. Individuals all around the world mark this Day by making a difference in their community in a “67 minutes campaign”; which describes how Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years.
In commemoration of the Nelson Mandela Day celebration, Royalty Youth Foundation which is headed by 2013 FALFA Star Prize Winner Pastor Sharon Ajide in collaboration with Future Africa Leaders Foundation and Padman Initiative organized a Menstrual Hygiene/sanitary Pad Drive at Onike Girls Junior High School in Makoko community.
The teenage girls were educated on basic menstrual hygiene and the use of a new product: The Reusable and washable sanitary pad. The girls were further enlightened on the importance and benefit of the reusable and washable sanitary pad which can be used for a period of one year while helping them to economize and save cost.
167 teenage girls were the beneficiaries of this program, and they each received a basic menstrual hygiene kit, which contained the reusable and washable pads and a pack of antiseptic soap.
The girls were excited about the kits and they were very grateful to The Royalty Youth Foundation, Future Africa Leaders Foundation and Padman Initiative.
